I'm pretty proud of it. So what's with all the hullabaloo? What happened with the old, permanently-orange site? Where are all the old blog posts? I'm sure you care about the answers to these questions as deeply as I do. I'll take them in reverse order. The old blog posts—er, excuse me--TEN YEARS OF RIVETING CONTENT, including insights from my time writing Alex, coming to terms with atheism and humanism, and generally being a liberal loudmouth can be found right here, in their temporary home. That site is a bit of a mess, so please forgive me. The formatting ain't perfect, I lost the comments in the transition, and there's nary a pretty picture to be found, but there are some good posts there (especially about parenting and making sense of the world in general, mostly under the "Deep Thoughts" category) and I didn't want to lose them in the move to Weebly.
So why the switch? Well, in short, I finally figured out enough of this whole website thing that I felt comfortable making one that didn't suck. Weebly is simple enough, and restricted enough, that I was able to find my way around. And I've wanted to have a website I actually understand how to manage for a decade. My old one was on WordPress, which I understand is great, but I had no idea how to do anything on it besides make new blog posts. And it wasn't for lack of trying—I spent literally days over the years trying to decipher all my addons and general nooks and crannies on that site, and usually I'm pretty good at that stuff, but it thwarted me. I may come back and learn it one day, especially since Weebly is pretty crap for blog management, but I didn't realize that until I was already locked into a two-year term with them, so here we are! Having a site that I understand from the ground up is crazy empowering. I've never felt so good about my site. And I learned a lot about graphic design while working on it (nuts and bolts stuff, not so much design principles per se), which has been really cool too. So. The old, perma-orange site will be retired shortly when I redirect the old URL to this new one. Finally, I believe there was a question about hullabaloo. Long story short, I've recently made some changes in the way my primary business operates that have opened an enormous amount of time in my schedule. This has allowed me to focus on all kinds of things I've always wanted to, particularly writing, free-lance editing, and web design. I have several books in the hopper, I'm taking on editing clients, and as you can see, I've sunk a couple weeks into getting a solid website up and running to show it all off. So welcome to the new site! Welcome to the (newly-named) blog! Let me know what you think; I'm happy to hear all feedback. Talk to you soon.
